Wasps: It's like knock-out rugby from now on

WASPS say they’re entering the stage of the season where every game is like knock-out rugby.

They begin a four-game block of Premiership matches with a trip to Harlequins on Sunday and after a fortnight’s break for the LV=Cup semi-finals and final, they return to action for the final run in.

This will include Premiership games against Leicester, Saracens and Northampton as well as an Amlin Challenge Cup quarter-final against Gloucester.

Back row Guy Thompson said: “We’ve got a busy month. We’re gearing up for Harlequins as though it’s knock-out rugby.

“We know it’s a big game and we just want to get going, I can’t wait.”

Thompson has been one of Wasps’ surprise packages this season after signing from Jersey in the Championship.

The back rower has brought his try-scoring form with him to Wycombe with seven tries already, including a hat-trick in the Amlin Challenge Cup.

He said: “I top-scored for Jersey for two years in a row and then for Richmond the year before that.

“I’ve always been a prolific try scorer but it’s only from the hard work from everyone else.

“Sometimes it’s a bit of luck and you just happen to finish off a move. Maybe I’m greedy, but it just seems to happen.

“This league is 100 times harder than anything I’ve ever played in before though. Defences are that much better, there are less gaps. But if it’s there you take it. It’s just an instinct maybe.”
