BEACONSFIELD SYCOB have enjoyed a fabulous season but it is still on a knife-edge after a 3-2 defeat to play-off rivals Dunstable.

Gary Meakin’s team looked certainties for the top five after a 16-game unbeaten run during mid-winter, but a cup defeat to Redditch broke the spell and since then they’ve lost two of their three Southern League Central matches.

They are still fourth in the table, but the teams placed fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth all have games in hand to go above them.

Royston are two points behind them with two games in hand, Barton and Kettering have four games in hand with a points gap of three and four respectively, while eighth-placed Daventry are five adrift of Rams but have played seven games fewer.

Beaconsfield kept them all at bay on Saturday with a 4-0 win over North Greenford United.

Tom O’Regan (2) and John Christian put them 3-0 up after ten minutes and Shaun Owens made it 4-0 from a free-kick.

Another three points from Dunstable would have been helpful, but despite creating the lion’s share of chances they went down by the odd goal in five.

Zak Joseph’s penalty made it 1-1 at the break, but Dunstable scored twice after the turnaround to make Kofi Lockhart-Adams’ late consolation academic.

On Saturday they host Chertsey.
