Wanderers sign Chesterfield midfielder on loan
WANDERERS’ new loan signing is celebrating a homecoming as Blues announce the arrival of midfielder Sam Togwell from Chesterfield.
The 29-year-old from Bourne End, who used to stand on the terraces as a boy, has been brought in one a one-month loan deal from the promotion-hunting Spireites.
Togwell started his career at Crystal Palace and made his debut for the Eagles aged 17.
He has had loan spells at Oxford United, Northampton Town and Port Vale and joined Barnsley in 2006.
After 73 appearances at Oakwell, he signed for Scunthorpe where he played a big role in Lincolnshire side’s promotion to the Championship in 2008/09.
And the defensive midfielder has featured 59 times for Chesterfield since signing in July 2012, scoring three times.
He told the club’s website: “I used to get the bus down to Adams Park from Bourne End on Saturday mornings and I used to love coming down and watching football.
“I knew there had been interest for a while but nothing had come of it. I then got a phone call on Thursday after training asking if I would come down, get some games and help the team out.
“I’ve tried to keep myself as fit as I can, which is tough when you’re not playing as much as you want, but I was thrown in over Christmas and I played four or five times and I felt fully fit - I’m available for selection.”
Togwell has been put straight into the the squad for tomorrow’s trip to York City and will wear the No.28 shirt.
