Marlow golfer shows welcome return to form at Wentworth
MARLOW golfer Tyrrell Hatton is getting back to the sort of form that marked an explosive start to life on the European Tour, despite missing out on a place at The US Open by a shot this week.
Softening that disappointment, the 22-year-old earned just short of £25,000 on Sunday after finishing inside the top 40 at the BMW PGA Championships at Wentworth.
Hatton carded rounds of 75, 70, 70 and 73 to finish for a tie for 38th place – just a shot behind Lee Westwood and Miguel Angel Jimenez.
However, he was on course for a third consecutive two-under par round of 70 on Sunday, until a triple bogey on the penultimate hole knocked him back in the field a dozen places.
That scorecard wrecker came in a back nine that included four birdies and no drop shots until then, after a mixed bag on the front nine.
Birdies at five and seven cancelled out drop shots at the first and third, but he was going backwards again after a double bogey on the ninth.
It was his third double of the week to go with his costly treble.
Despite that, Hatton appears to be on the way back after starting his debut season on tour with ties for tenth, 22nd and second in less than a month – although another poor finish cost him dearly during qualification for The US Open on Monday.
