AFTER conceding eight goals in their last two games, Marlow battled to their best result of the season as they upset title challengers and league leaders Kettering 3-2.

Devontae Romeo opened the scoring after 54 minutes and after Kettering hit back to lead 2-1, Marlow levelled after 74 minutes before Craig Scott struck a 90th minute winner.

Manager Mark Bartley said: “It was a good shot in the arm for us. We had one or two leaders back and it made a difference.

“But it wasn’t a smash and grab. We matched them for long periods. We had 11 honest players out there and they worked hard and got the result they deserved.”

Blues have now beaten Kettering and Rugby, while only losing to an injury time goal against Daventry. Those results suggest they have big performances in them, but consistency is an issue.

Bartley said: “Daventry, Kettering and Rugby are the three teams you would expect to be there or thereabouts and in the three games we’ve played against them we’ve taken six points from nine.

“We’ve got an opportunity to build on this result now but it doesn’t get any easier because we’ve got the team that’s placed second in the league next.”

Marlow play Royston a week on Saturday.
