Wycombe Hockey Club’s Under-16 Girl’s team followed in the footsteps of their male counterparts after they qualified for the England Hockey National Finals.

Their place at the finals was secured when they reached the South England Hockey Regional Indoor final on December 7 – narrowly losing to Surbiton.

The team played five games en route to their showdown with Surbiton, beginning the competition with a 1-0 success against East Grinstead.

Amersham and Chalfont were then dispatched 2-0 before Wimbledon held them to a 1-1 draw in their toughest match of the group stage.

A 5-0 triumph against Marlow came courtesy of a hat-trick from Beth Wagge and secured their progression to the semi-finals.

Horsham were brushed aside 3-0 before Surbiton proved too strong in the final as they fell to a 2-1 defeat.

The squad will now look ahead to national finals in January. We had another successful tournament on Sunday 7th December Wycombe U16 Girls reached the South England Hockey Regional Indoor Final on Sunday to qualify for the England Hockey National Finals in January. This was a week in advance of Wycombe Boys U16 also qualifying with an emphatic victory over local rivals Marlow.

The girls won their group beating East Grinstead, Amersham and Chalfont, Marlow and drawing with Wimbledon. In the semi-final they overwhelmed Horsham 3-0 before losing 1-3 to National league leaders Surbiton in the Regional final.
