Ryan Blake scored the only goal of the game as Chesham United beat Bristol Rovers 1-0 in the FA Cup first round at the Memorial Ground.

The result saw non-league Chesham book their place in the second round of the cup for the first time since the 1994-95 season.

United’s David Pearce saw his penalty saved in the in the 29th minute after Tome Lockyer had fouled Bradley Wadkins.

It proved inconsequential though as Blake scored with 13 minutes remaining to secure a fairy tale win for the Generals.

He struck a powerful long-range effort to catch Rovers keeper Lee Nicholls off guard and secure a famous win for Andy Leese’s side.

Chesham will find out who they face in the second round on Monday night and should they win in the next round it will be their joint best FA Cup run since 1980.
