Wycombe Wanderers have revealed they will take action against one of their star players after he allegedly “headbutted” a supporter outside a supermarket.
After investigating the alleged incident over the weekend, club bosses say a player – understood to be Pierre - “regrettably behaved in an unprofessional manner, letting both the club and himself down”.
They added that before the incident there was strong provocation by the fan and both parties have subsequently met and whilst there have been apologies to each other and to the club, they also acknowledge that such actions cannot be accepted.
Club chairman Andrew Howard said: “Football is a highly emotional game both on and off the field but that does not mean that players and fans alike can operate outside legal or moral laws.
"As a club we want passion and commitment but we also want a culture where everyone feels safe - this is the priority at our club.”
The club have not officially confirmed the exact circumstances of the incident, or if allegations of a headbutt are true.
It has also not yet been revealed what action will be taken against the player and fan, however Pierre – who has commented on the incident – played in Wycombe's 2-0 win over Barnet.
Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth refused to comment on the matter.
