High Wycombe bounced back well after an opening day defeat to record two wins out of two last weekend.

Their first match was a league encounter away to Banbury on Saturday and the High Wycombe bowling unit did superbly to restrict Banbury to 159/9 from their 50 overs.

Jonathan Burden, Adam Dobb, Dan Marles and Tom Hampton took two wickets each with some tight bowling and wonderful fielding aiding their effort.

With rain around, the game would be won on Duckworth Lewis and the visitors made sure of victory by 29 runs with Wisden Schools Cricketer of the Year, Teddie Casterton hitting 64 and captain Nathan Hawkes 25 not out.

Casterton explained the team were delighted to get that first win after their agonising loss to Tring Park the previous weekend.

He said: “We were relieved to get our first league win of the season.

“It was a tough pitch to bat on but we bowled brilliantly to restrict them to that total.

“It wasn’t easy to bat on so I had to get my head down and get the ones and twos and see us towards the finishing line.”

The following day, Wycombe had their first cup game of the season in the ECB National Club Championship second round against Chesham.

Having received a bye to this round, Wycombe beat their local rivals comfortably by 30 runs.

High Wycombe won the toss and batted first and recorded 203/8 from their 40 overs as.

Once again Casterton got his side off to a good start with 17 before opening partner Hawkes, promoted up the order made a belligerent 73 and Marles hit a powerful 77 from 80 balls.

Chesham were always behind the rate and wickets tumbled at regular intervals.

Marles produced a magnificent all-round display as he grabbed 4/39 with Conner Haddow claiming 2/37.

Casterton added: “It was great to win our first cup match of the season.
“Nathan promoted himself up the order and it was great to bat with him. He batted superbly.

“We played well in this game and the one on Saturday but I still feel we have that extra 10 per cent to give and that is promising for us.”

Next up is a game against Thame Town on Saturday at home and on a personal note, Casterton certainly feels his is getting there with his form.

He said: “We haven’t had a pre-season at all. It was a complete washout so these matches are tough.

“I am getting there gradually with my batting and to where I want to be. It was good to get 60-odd at the weekend.

“I have a target of 700 runs this season in mind and I feel when I make targets I am confident of getting them as I like putting pressure on myself.

“I don’t know too much about our opponents this weekend but what I do is we approach every game in exactly the same way and that will be no different on Saturday.

“As I said, we have more to give still and hopefully it can all come together.”
