Blues manager Gareth Ainsworth declared himself pleased with another promising workout against Championship side Brentford on Tuesday evening.

A Marcus Forss penalty was the only difference between the sides at Adams Park and Ainsworth admitted he is very happy with where the squad currently are.

He said: “We had more of a workout than we did against West Ham.
“Brentford moved the ball really well and you can tell how Dean Smith (Brentford manager) is trying to play and they are a good side.

“They had a couple of chances, especially second half, and the first half was quite even and it was another good workout against good opposition.

“I was worried at the start of pre-season how these games against higher opposition would come off but I think they have been perfect for us.

“I am looking forward to Saturday and then Tuesday and Friday against non-league opposition and hopefully we can get some goals on board but nothing matters until August 4.”

With that Blackpool game just 15 days away, Ainsworth explained that he is getting closer to working out his starting 11 for that match.

He added: “Everyday I am getting closer. There will be a few factors that will come into it on August 4 but I will keep my cards close to my chest and we will hopefully be very fit.

“We aren’t going to come up against the likes of West Ham in League One but we will come up against very good sides and so far, so good.”
