Chairboys boss Gareth Ainsworth admitted that he is looking forward to an emotional return to Sincil Bank on Saturday.

The 49-year-old spent two seasons with Lincoln City and is very highly-thought of, winning two Player of the Season awards and being named among the best 100 players to have starred for the Imps.

Speaking ahead of a reunion with his former club, Ainsworth admitted it was like going home.

Bucks Free Press:

"I absolutely loved it," he beamed. "I went up recently for a charity game and the place hasn’t changed, the pitch is brilliant. The fans are awesome up there, there’s nothing really around Lincoln so they’ve got a great catchment area.

"There are only two or three clubs where I feel like I am going home; QPR would be one and Lincoln City would definitely be one. I’ll have to control myself to not walk in the home dressing room. It was such a brilliant time in my career, and the added bonus of having Mark Kennedy as manager."

Kennedy, who took over the club in the summer, was a former teammate of Ainsworth's at Wimbledon and played for the likes of Liverpool and the Republic of Ireland in a 20-year career.

Talking on his relationship with the former Birmingham City assistant manager, memories came flooding back of their time at Plough Lane.

"The Crazy Gang was in full flow, and he was a fully paid member. We’ve both matured into managers, and it’ll be nice to share a beer with Mark after the game."
