DOUG Gremmen ended his seven-year wait to win a title when he won the men's singles at the Gerrards Cross Tennis Club Championship on Saturday.

The 20-year-old beat beat Salih Unsal, 17, in an absorbing final after knocking out defending champion Andrew Jackson 6-3, 6-3 in the semi-final.

But he rode his luck before then, saving five match points in his quarter-final against Sam Butler.

Disappointed Butler did have the consolation of landing the U18 title for the fourth year running, beating Jack Groves 6-1, 6-1.

Butler's sister Jane, 15, was also a winner. She won the U18 girls final for the third year running but was involved in one of the longest matches of the day, beating Sam Blissett 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.

Fifteen-year-old James Scholfield became the youngest player to compete in the men's doubles final.

He and partner Steve Thompson beat Andy Scholfield and Andy Giles in the semi's and came within a couple of games of beating the experienced Richard Crockett and Dave Sellers in the final, before going down 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

But James did get his hands on the U18 doubles trophy. He and partner Greg Schultes beat sixteen-year-olds Jack Groves and James Slaughter 7-6 3-6 6-4 Linda Rennie dominated the lady vets competition, firstly beating her doubles partner Ani Slaughter 6-4 6-0, and then Kate Todd and Ann James 6-1 6-0 in the final.

Then she teamed up with Andrew Martin to beat Tony and Jo Kilbourn 6-0 6-0 in the mixed doubles.

In the ladies singles, last year's beaten finalist Susie Hall came back to win this year against ex-champion Laura Jones.

Sarah Maeght, 13, won the U15 singles against Georgina Kilbourn. They then teamed up to win the U15 doubles but lost the U18 doubles to the Blissett and Butler partnership.

The girls under ten event went the way of Chalissa Lau who beat Ella Scholfield 6-2 6-4 after Scholfield was stung by a bee during second set.

And Amber Hall had a 12th birthday to remember. She won the U12 singles and then paired up with Taryn Dale to beat beat Ella Scholfield and Charlotte Thistle 4-2, 2-4, 10-6 to win the U12 girls doubles as well.
