WASPS have failed to capitalise on playing against 14 men on two occasions in recent weeks, against Newcastle and Saracens.

They have scored just three points in 20 minutes playing with an extra man, while head coach Shaun Edwards believes seven points per sin-binning is par for the course.

But Tony Hanks says that perhaps Wasps’ experiences in recent weeks has exposed a flaw in the rules.

He said: “The question we’re asking is, there has been sin-binning because of scrummaging and the opposition has brought on a fresh prop.

“We’d had five or six scrums by then and it’s been to the advantage of the other team.

“So I don’t think it’s as simple as, because they’ve got 14, there is a hole somewhere. You still have to earn that and trying to play against 14 is not something we spend a lot of time working on.”
