WANDERERS boss John Gorman admits he faces a selection headache with the new season only a week away.

The Blues came from a goal down against Crawley at the Broadfield Stadium to keep up their winning ways ahead of Carlisle United's visit on Saturday.

Strikes from Tommy Mooney and Nathan Tyson secured the victory, but encouraging performances from a host of second half-substitutes has given Gorman plenty to think about.

He said: "My players keep giving me a problem because the ones I bring on always play well and they keep giving me reminders that they want to be in the team.

"Both our front two have scored, but the two lads who came on Jonny Dixon and Charlie Griffin looked very dangerous.

"Ian Stonebridge has come in and done well and Rob Lee was outstanding. Even John Salako wants a contract which is good, but it's a headache for me."

Preparations for the game could have gone better with Wanderers stuck in traffic on the M25 and only arriving 50 minutes before kick off.

The arduous trek seemed to effect Gorman's side and they looked sluggish against their Conference opponents despite having the best of the opening 15 minutes.

It took a crude challenge from former Chairboy Ian Simpemba on eight minutes to stop Kevin Betsy 20 yards out, however, Danny Senda's resultant free kick sailed over the bar.

The hosts were forced into an early substitution up front with Allan Tait replacing the injured Dorryll Proffitt, but it was his strike partner who threatened first for the hosts on 16 minutes.

Wycombe failed to clear a cross from the right and the ball broke to Steve Burton on the edge of the six-yard box.

However, Frank Talia was alert to the danger and managed to block the number ten's close-range effort.

Mooney then released Betsy down the right and the former Fulham man cut back inside beating two players before firing a low left-footed shot which the Crawley keeper smothered at his near post.

Wycombe were made to pay for their lack of urgency and conceded a controversial 28th minute goal.

A through ball split centre backs Roger Johnson and Mike Williamson and found Tait lurking just inside the visitor's half.

With Wanderers appealing for offside, Tait ran on before rounding Talia and sliding the ball into an empty net.

The score seemed to galvanise Wanderers and they were rewarded for some sustained pressure with a beautifully crafted equaliser on 41 minutes.

Betsy again showed his pace down the right and flicked the ball inside to supporting runner Matt Bloomfield.

The young midfielder played a first time ball into Mooney who had peeled off his marker just inside the penalty area.

With the goalkeeper fast approaching, the experienced striker calmly slotted the ball into the far corner.

Wycombe almost added a second on the stroke of half-time when Betsy's quick free kick played in Senda but the defender's dangerous low cross was cleared at the back post.

Blues brought on Stonebridge for Joe Burnell at half time, but it was Betsy who continued to catch the eye.

He played in Tyson on the edge of the area and the frontman forced a good save from the keeper.

However, Tyson did get his name on the scoresheet on 56 minutes thanks to some good work by Clint Easton.

The left back clipped a ball down the line, which the Crawley defence seemed to think was heading out for a goal kick.

However, Tyson was on it like a flash and the pacy striker's shot looped in at the back post via a despairing hand from Crawley's glovesman.

Town made three substitutions on the hour mark, but it was the introduction of Wycombe's Lee on the hour mark which set the tone for the last 30 minutes.

The former England player took control of the midfield alongside Stefan Oakes and with the hosts struggling to get out of their half, Gorman brought on more fresh legs to keep the pressure on in the final 15 minutes.

Griffin and Dixon replaced Mooney and Tyson and within minutes Griffin had gone close on two occasions.

Stonebridge almost added a third after some neat one touch passing between Dixon and Easton down the left.

Johnson should have scored with three minutes remaining when he blazed over from six yards and Salako was unlucky not to find the net when his goal-bound effort was tipped over in the dying minutes.

Gorman said: "I am pleased with the performance because we had a bit of a hard journey and were stuck on the coach. It took us a while to get going because we didn't arrive here until ten past two but once we raised the tempo we were the better side and finished very strongly.

"It was quite slow in the first half but we moved the ball about much quicker in the second and in the end our passing and movement kept breaking them down time and again.

"If it wasn't for their goalkeeper, who I thought was outstanding, we maybe could have won by a few more. He made some great saves."
