ISA Guha was left stranded at the non-striker's end as England's women lost the one-day series to Australia in a dramatic finale.

With the series poised at 2-2, England needed six runs off the final over when Guha, batting at number eleven, stepped to the wicket.

The High Wycombe cricketer scampered a quick single but skipper Clare Connor was caught next ball to give the Aussies victory and some consolation for losing the Ashes series last month.

Guha said: "I was really nervous coming out to bat as most people would have seen in my eyes. We spoke about how we were going to do it and I managed to take a single of the first ball. Unfortunately it wasn't to be but that's the way the game goes sometimes.

"I was disappointed to know we'd come so close and couldn't finish it off but we'd almost managed to chase down 260, which is one of the highest totals we've ever had to beat."

Guhu admitted this summer had been an exciting time to be involved in cricket with both the women's and men's teams enjoying some memorable wins against the world's best team.

She said: "It's been fantastic. Cricket has been everywhere and I'd like to think we've managed to raise its profile and get it challenging football as the country's most popular sport.

"It's nice to think that someone might have watched us on television and decided they want to play cricket because they've seen the country doing well."

On Sunday, England announce the women's team for their tour of India proceeded by a trip to Sri Lanka.

Guha hopes she has done enough to earn a place in the squad after performing with the bat and ball in the enthralling Ashes and one-day series.

She said: "It's been a real roller-coaster of emotions and a wonderful experience for me. We are very proud that we have been able to compete with the best in the world.

"It's been a really exciting time for the women. I just hope it can continue.

"The main thing is to carry on and keep winning and I hope to be a part of that."
