CHINNOR were left gutted when a late, late try by Clifton denied the south Oxfordshire victory in the Powergen National Cup.
The away side looked to be in control when they game entered the sixth minute of injury time. They were 24-20 up and in Clifton's 22 when Rewi Tolich broke through, only to be dragged a metre short. If Chinnor had kicked the ball out at that point, the referee would have blown his whistle and Chinnor would have gone through.
But instead, a stray boot kicked the ball into the arms of the Clifton full back and he raced the length of the field to score and break Chinnor's resolve.
Earlier on, Chinnor had come back from 10-0 down to go 24-19 up thanks to a hat-trick of tries by Eric Brown and a Tolich score.
Tomorrow sees Chinnor return to South West One action when they entertain Oxford Harlequins.
