CHESHAM United are staring down the barrel after slipping seven points from Premier Division safety with a 2-0 defeat at King's Lynn on Saturday.

Luther Blissett's side put in a gutsy display and Alex Charalambous, John Bacon and Junior Harvey all had chances to give United the lead before the title hopefuls went in front in first-half stoppage time.

The Linnets made the game safe four minutes from time, and Blissett and co now travel to fellow-strugglers Aylesbury United on Saturday knowing that a 21st league defeat will almost certainly consign United to the drop.

In Division One West, Beaconsfield were holding highflying Ashford until imploding in the second period.

The Rams had matched Ashford in the first period but Paul Catlin's dismissal after 50 minutes turned the tide and goals after 57 and 66 minutes settled the game.

Beaconsfield travel to Swindon Supermarine on Saturday.

At the foot of the table, Thame United's drawn out torment continued with a 3-1 reverse against Taunton.

United were behind after two minutes and although Tom Goffe levelled before the break, Taunton sealed the points with two second half goals.

Thame meet Paulton Rovers tonight and are away again on Saturday when Bromsgrove Rovers are the opponents.
