WASPS will do well to match last season’s flying start to the Guinness Premiership season after being handed a daunting opening spell of the 2010/11 campaign.
The fixtures were released yesterday and the players will have puffed out their cheeks after looking at what the first month has in store for them.
After the traditional Twickenham double-header to launch the season, when Wasps will ‘host’ Harlequins, the men in black and gold will have to go to Newcastle, Gloucester and Sale – all in the first five weeks.
In between those tough trips they also have the small matter of taking on champions Leicester in their first Adams Park match of the year.
Director of rugby Tony Hanks said: “The nature of the competition means that no matter what way it comes out it’s always going to be tough.
“And being in a tough group in the Heineken Cup as well this season means there will be no let up throughout the year.”
