MARLOW Park circa 2010 narrowly avoided the ignominy of setting the worst run in the club’s history by winning for the first time in a season and a half on Saturday.

A century from Ash Butt plus fine bowling from Steve Ayres and Kim Barlow proved the difference as they saw off Henley by 86 runs inthe Thames Valley League.

Batting first, Johannes Potgieter gave them a decent start with 44 at the top of the order, but it was only when Butt came to the middle that the innings got some real stablity.

His 105, while wickets continued to fall around him, was the mainstay of Park’s score of 262 all out as only Kim Barlow offered any reliable support with 25.

Henley’s reply followed a similar pattern, with Nick Johnson scoring 103 but no one else getting past the teens as Ayres (4-51), Barlow (3-18) and Mo Munsha (2-25) helped Park break their duck.

Park built on that with a winning draw on Sunday, when Munsha (96 not out) was the star against Nomads.
