WYCOMBE RFC believe South West One East is as tough as it’s been in years and say whoever crosses the line first won’t get there without a few scrapes and bruises along the way.

Wycombe were beaten 13-12 at Amersham on Saturday and have also lost to Reading Abbey.

But first team manager Alistair Foyle He said: “It’s a very competitive league and I think the winners will lose four or five games.

“I haven’t seen everyone play, but I don’t think there is an oustanding team in there this year.”

With two losses already, Wycombe need to tread carefully from now, although a last-minute penalty at Amersham could have given them more leeway.

There were a point behind when Toby Radford lined up the posts on the touchline.

Foyle said: “It was a 30-70 kick, and he only missed by two yards.

“But Amersham deserved to win on the day. They have a lot of potential and are the best side we’ve played all season, without a shadow of a doubt.

“We could’ve stolen it, but we didn’t play to our ability. It was a typical derby and I think both sides just about cancelled each other out.”

Tomorrow Wycombe host Bletchley knowing only a win will do.

Meanwhile, Saturday’s defeat at Amersham continued Robert Dorling’s incredible Wycombe career.

The 37-year-old was playing his 293rd game for the club, and he hasn’t done it by messing around in the backs either – Dorling is a hooker.
