PROMOTION will complete a hat-trick of success for Wanderers this week after victory in the County Cup final and the U18s’ triumph the Youth Alliance Cup.

Youngster Ollie Taylor scored an injury-time penalty for Blues as they beat Maidenhead United 3-2 in the final of the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup at Chesham on Bank Holiday Monday.

And that was followed two days later by the youth team beating their Darlington counterparts 4-2 on penalties at Adams Park after a goalless draw.

Goalkeeper Matt Ingram, who was called up to an England training camp earlier in the season, saved two Darlo spot-kicks as the young Blues claimed a deserved win after dominating the match.

A penalty had sealed a win for the first team as they won the county cup for the 27th time, having thrown away a two-goal lead.

Matt Bloomfield and Keiran Murtagh had put Blues in a seemingly commanding position before their Conference South opponents fought back to equalise.

Wanderers boss Gary Waddock is hoping the first team can now go on and make it a cup and promotion double.

He said: “It will be a very nice ending to the week. I’m delighted for the youth team and with Dobbo [coach Richard Dobson], and with the game on Monday to win that cup as well. It will be a nice ending to the week if we achieve what we set out to achieve.”

Waddock praised the role Dobson has played this season after leading the youth team to cup victory and stepping in to assist him with first team duties after Martin Kuhl left the club.

He said: “He’s come up and assisted me, he’s been able to get young players into the club who have progressed through and we’ve seen a few of them in the first team.

“He’s played an important role, not only this season but since he’s been at the football club.

“He’s got an excellent staff behind him. We’ve got a very close group of people behind the scenes. They go to all the home youth games so we keep an eye on them.

“We know we’ve got a good group of players coming through the system and it’s encouraging for the club as well that one or two have made their debuts this season.”
