GOAL hero Ben Strevens has had to wait patiently to get his name back on the scoresheet – but a brace against Bury provided him with his best moment as a Wycombe player.
He netted his first goals since February 1 – a dozen games ago – as Wanderers put themselves within touching distance of an instant return to League One.
Strevens admitted he has had a frustrating time on the sidelines but Saturday’s goals made up for it, saying: “That was the best feeling I have had since I’ve been in a Wycombe shirt.”
He said: “I’ve been unlucky with a couple of injuries and I knew once I got my chance I had to take it. The last couple of games have gone well and we have to make sure we finish it off.
“The toughest game was at Oxford. I was buzzing for the boys but I was thinking, ‘I want to be out there’.”
He’ll take another scrappy goal if it means victory over Southend and promotion on Saturday.
Strevens said: “I’ll take anything. Today were two of the more scrappy goals I have scored for Wycombe but they mean more than any other goals. I don’t care how they go in or who scores next week, as long as we get that win.”
