JACO Nel had a debut to remember for Amersham Cricket Club as he top scored with the bat before taking six wickets in a low-scoring win for his new side.

Amersham won their final friendly of the pre-season against Kidmore End despite being dismissed for just 100.

They looked in a perilous position after being reduced to 40-5 before Nel arrived at the crease and blasted a quickfire 20.

The largest Amersham partnership was between fellow newcomer Paresh Somani and Jack Rogers, as their ninth wicket stand allowed their side to just about make it into three figures.

Victory appeared unlikely, especially after Kidmore End opener Tom Sheldon hit 23 runs off 15 balls, before some incredible bowling from Nel and David Atkinson.

Nel took the first three wickets before sensible batting from Mark New and Charlie Moore appeared to have put Kidmore End in control of the match when they moved their side on to 59-3.

But when Nel returned to the attack three more wickets fell in quick succession as he finished on 6-14 to swing the game decisively into Amersham’s favour.

David Atkinson didn’t concede a single run off his six overs before he collected a wicket, leaving Somani to claim the final two wickets for 13 and dismiss Kidmore End for 90 after a thrilling finish.
