BLUES top-scorer Scott Rendell says it's been the perfect season for him despite falling one short of his 20-goal target.

Rendell was the big-money signing of last summer but struggled initially to live up to his £150k price tag and then found himself fighting just for a start.

But he admits all's well that end's well.

He said: “I'll take it, especially after the year I've had. I haven't played as many games as I'd have liked to – especially early in the season. But to get 19 goals and promotion is fantastic, I couldn't ask for any more.”

But the chance to hit the magic 20-goal mark was there for him after a late season surge.

He started this afternoon's match on 18 before scoring Wanderers' third in their 3-1 win over Southend, and late on he had a glorious chance to make it to 20 when Ben Strevens set him up.

The legs of Southend keeper Glenn Morris denied him, but with the points in the bag and League One to look forward to, who is counting?

He said: “It was a good chance and I'll probably think about that in a couple of weeks, but today was about promotion and we need to enjoy it.”
