LUKE Donald admitted to feeling frustrated at not being able to produce his best form at a major championship after finishing in a share of 32nd place with a three-over par score at the Masters.

The High Wycombe golfer has been in scintillating form over the past year, topping the world rankings on more than one occasion, but he desperately wants to win a major championship.

His form suggests it is only a matter of time before he does, but he never threatened to take home the coveted green jacket from Augusta.

Donald said: "I feel a bit flat. I’d high hopes and expectations and it hasn’t panned out.

"It’s just been one of those weeks. I’ve not played that badly. I’ve probably driven it as well as I ever have around here, [but] my iron play hasn’t been sharp enough and certainly not my short game."

After his first round 75 put him at three over, the former Hazlemere Golf Club member survived a brief scorecard scare that may have resulted in disqualification after a smudge appeared on his scorecard, which marked his score wrong.

But his wife Diane was first to reassure his supporters, tweeting: "Just got off the phone with Luke, NOT disqualified. Thank goodness."

After his final round 68, his only below-par score of the week which included holing an incredible eagle putt with his driver on the 15th hole, Donald enjoyed the television coverage of American Bubba Watson’s play-off victory over South Africa’s 2010 Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen.

He tweeted: "Enjoying the coverage now, nothing like a Masters Sunday!

"Congrats to @bubbawatson, well played."

He will now turn his attention towards defending his BMW Championship title at Wentworth in May, while he’ll also feature in The Players Championship in Florida in the same month and in the British Open at Royal Lytham & St Anne’s in July.
