DAVE Winfield's fitness is the main concern for Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth as he prepares for a backlash from Northampton Town this evening.
A calf injury meant the rugged defender wasn't able to complete the full 90 minutes against Aldershot Town on Saturday, and his absence could be a concern with Ainsworth expecting his side to be given a serious aerial challenge by the Cobblers.
They surprisingly lost at home to relegation threatened York at the weekend, ending their incredible ten match winning streak at Sixfields and ensuring they lost further ground in the battle for automatic promotion.
A win for Wanderers will all but condemn Aidy Boothroyd's men to the play offs and Ainsworth has warned his men to be on their guard.
He said: "Aidy is a manager with a reputation of coming at people. They'll bombard us and we'll have to be ready for that, but it's a different Wycombe side that went to Sixfields earlier in the season.
"I think we've got more of an identity now. We've got a lot of passion and desire in the side, which I have wanted to get in there."
Ainsworth's biggest concern is his captain Winfield and the Blues boss said: "Dave's struggling with a calf. It's a new injury. He's got a knock on his calf and we'll have to assess that.
"I'm not willing to risk any of my players, so if Dave's not right Dave won't play. He's a huge asset to this club, he's the skipper and he's been outstanding this season."
Stuart Lewis is free to come back into the side after completing a two match ban and Ainsworth said: "There could be a few changes because I don't want to make the same mistake of having tired legs out there and not being able to perform 100 per cent. But there might not be changes - I'm not giving anything away."
Meanwhile Ainsworth said victory over bottom of the table Aldershot at the weekend was an indicator his side were taking their remaining three games seriously, despite being safe from relegation and having next to no chance of making the play offs.
He said: "If we'd have been beaten today there would have been questions. Teams at the top will think, Northampton have got to go to Wycombe, that's a tough game - and it is, I want to keep winning games because we take that into next season."
