ANTHONY Stewart's search for a new club has taken him on trial at League One strugglers Crewe Alexandra.

The 22-year-old played for the Alex's U21 side in a friendly against Birmingham City on Monday night, which resulted in a 3-1 win for Crewe.

Railwaymen boss Steve Davis told the local media he is likely to make a decision on whether to sign the centre back by the end of this week.

Wanderers would be entitled to compensation from Crewe if they were to offer him a deal because of his age.

Stewart was offered a new contract by Blues at the end of last season but refused to sign.

He was on trial with another League One outfit, Crawley Town, in the summer and spent several weeks training with them.

He has been training with Crewe since last week, Davis told the Crewe Chronicle.

Meanwhile Anthony Jeffrey, who also featured for Wanderers last season, played for Millwall's U21 side in a friendly on Monday.
