Wycombe Wanderers grabbed a valuable win thanks to on-loan striker Randell Williams scoring his first goal for the club in a 1-0 victory against Yeovil Town at Huish Park.

Substitute Williams scored the vital goal on 78 minutes when he calmly slotted home after good work by Nathan Tyson, Joe Jacobson and Marcus Bean.

Yeovil edged proceedings overall and hit the woodwork twice as the Wanderers goal led a charmed life but the Blues held firm.

The Glovers made a quick start to the match with a couple of early forays forward into the Wycombe box.

Wycombe settled down and looked comfortable themselves at a warm and sun-kissed Huish Park.

The visitors were slowly getting on top of The Glovers and Scott Kashket and Nick Freeman were looking lively in the opening 15 minutes.

Neither side created too much early on but Wanderers suffered a scare on 21 minutes when Ryan Dickson’s wonderful cross evaded everyone and went inches wide of the far post.

Although the game was being played at a lively tempo, both defences were on top with Adam El-Abd, in particular, continuing his impressive form.

The home side had a great chance on 39 minutes when Omar Sowunmi met Lewis Wing’s cross but his header spun centimetres wide of the upright.

Otis Khan almost gave Yeovil the lead right on half-time when his whipped free kick was just tipped onto the post by Scott Brown.

Wycombe had a half-chance just after that when Adebayo Akinfenwa found Kashket in the area but his shot was deflected wide.

Yeovil got off to a great start in the second half when Alex Fisher found the net from six yards when he turned in Jordan Green’s cross but it was adjudged to be offside.

Darren Way’s side were certainly the better side in the early stages and a couple of superb blocks by Nathan McGinley stopped Yeovil in their tracks.

Wycombe had an opportunity of their own on 55 minutes when Jacobson’s corner found Akinfenwa who saw his goalbound volley blocked before Bean had an effort charged down.

The Chairboys were gradually working their way into the second half and Freeman’s 25-yard thunderbolt whistled just wide of Jonny Maddison’s post.

The game had fizzled out but Tom James almost scored a magnificent free kick when his strike on 76 minutes smashed the post with Brown beaten.

Nathan Tyson was then introduced to the game and his pace breathed new life into Wycombe's attack.

Williams then had the decisive say with his first ever professional goal and Wanderers saw the game out comfortably to cement their place in the automatic promotion spots.
