Wanderers skipper Paul Hayes has warned he's still some way from being fully fit after making his comeback from injury.

He was given the last half an hour against Newport on Saturday as he played his first football since January 3 due to a calf strain.

Hayes was included in the squad at Bury last month after thinking the problem had gone away, but the warm up at Gigg Lane showed he wasn't up to speed.

The striker only joined in with full training in the latter part of last week and said he needs to do some serious work before fans will be able to see him back to his best.

Hayes said: "I thought I was closer than I was. I was warming up for the Bury game and I wasn't right. I think the gaffer wanted to get me on then, but I told him I wasn't ready.

"It's taken me a few more weeks and I few more injections to get me ready.

"I think I need at least a week behind myself to be fit. Not training for five and a half weeks, I've lost my fitness completely.

"It's helped I've got 30 minutes today. Adrenaline got me through. It's a little bit stiff but I've played with worse. I need a good week of training ahead of me."
