Wycombe Wanderers defenders Aaron Pierre and Joe Jacobson have been named in the League Two team of the year.

The pair have formed an integral part of the meanest defence in the league as the Chairboys have conceded just 38 goals so far this season.

Wanderers have kept 17 clean sheets throughout the league campaign and while their attack has often misfired, their watertight back four have been a consistent force as Wycombe’s attempt to reach the play-offs.

Jacobson has made 39 appearances in all competitions for the Blues and scored his only league goal of the season with a superb free kick against Exeter.

His delivery from set pieces has been a reliable weapon for the Adams Park club in attack and the Welshman’s marauding runs from left-back have also proved to be dangerous.

Jacobson took to twitter to say: “Buzzing to be voted into this [team of the year] with @AaronPierre6.”

Pierre is undoubtedly one of Gareth Ainsworth’s side’s most important players and his physical, no nonsense defending has made him a near ever-present at centre-back.

The 23-year-old rarely loses out in a one on one battle against strikers and has found the net twice this season.

It has been a memorable campaign for Pierre and he is set to reach a fresh landmark when he brings up his 100th appearance for Wycombe against Portsmouth tomorrow.
