Late winner earns Chesham Trophy tie with Bath

Chesham book Bath tie in Trophy
CHESHAM United are seemingly on the way back after a spirited 180-minute victory over Canvey Island in the FA Trophy this week.
They came from behind to force a draw in Essex on Saturday and repeated the trick in Tuesday’s replay, when they recovered from conceding the first goal to win 2-1 and book a home tie with Bath City in the first round proper.
Toby Little won it for Chesham in the 88th minute in midweek, after Michael Chennells had levelled it at 1-1 after 64 minutes.
Manager Andy Leese said: “It was well-deserved. We said at the weekend it might have to be won over two games and we were right.
“It was hard work. We were behind in both games but showed real resolve.
“We did well to get back in the game and stay in the game on Saturday, and on Tuesday they shaded the first half but we wrestled back the initiative and created five or six good chances.
“The players are rightly pleased with themselves. We’ve found a bit of togetherness and resolve again.
“It’s taken a bit of time, but it’s looking better than it was a few weeks ago.”
Chesham wil hope to revive their league challenge at Frome on Saturday before Bath come to The Meadow on November 24.
Leese said: “It’s a competition we feel we can progress in.”
