TWO junior Bucks badminton teams are on course for the national finals in Manchester after topping their groups in round one.

The U15 girls and U13 boys both won all three of their Inter-County Junior Championship matches in Chingford and Northamptonshire respectively and are now well-placed to secure a place in the finals.

The girls team of Amy Jones, Jemma Stanton, Sydney Wallace, Bethan Draper, Sarah Jackson and reserve Cassie Green, beat Essex 15-8 and Suffolk 18-5 to finish top.

Meanwhile, the boys team of Will Smith, Harry Hewitt, Matty Gallagher, Hugo Eaton Hart, Jack Murzynowski and reserve Jasper Kettle beat Oxon 14-6 before crushing Avon and Northamptonshire, 20-0 and 19-1 respectively.

Also taking part were the girls U13 A team of Lucy Varco, Katie Malliff and Lorna Judge, who beat Worcestershire in Beaconsfield but lost to North Wales and Warwickshire, while the B team of Lucy Denman, Chloe Foster and Molly Paine were beaten by Sussex, Surrey and Middlesex.

The U15 boys (Freddie Evans, Edward Eaton-Hart, Oli Moir, Will Piper, Oscar Glenister and reserve Usman Ali) beat Bedfordshire but lost to Hertfordshire and Essex, the U17s boys (Hue Riddall, Oli Varco, Alex Dyson, Harry Lomas, Scott Jones and reserve Harry Chapples) lost three narrow matches to Hertfordshire, Suffolk and Oxford while the U19s (Joe Yerrell, Dylan Harris, Joe Elfasi, Nick Ratnarajah, Phil Beaukes and reserve Rohan Sani-Sandhu) overpowered Avon but finished second after defeat to Gloucestershire.

Meanwhile, Wycombe Squash and Racket Club hosted the Bucks Squash League Division Two last week.

The host team suffered the galling experience of winning more games but losing the game as Chesham Bois Juniors edged them 13-10.

There was also no joy for WSRC 2s, who were beaten 17-7 at Farnham Common while in Division Three WSRC 3s beat Beaconsfield Trojans moved to the top of three with a 16-6 win.

However, their lead might not last with three teams having a match in hand on them.

Elsewhere, the Berkshire Squash League Division 2A, Temple Wycombe visited Bracknell 2s in the Berkshire Squash League Division 2A and had obviously learned from their hard lesson at University, winning 19-6.

Adam Williams and Matt Allanson slugged out five-setters on one court, with Williams winning and Allanson losing.

But by the time they finished, Stuart Burnett (3-0), Scott Osbourne (3-0) and George Goodchild (3-1) had already pocketed the bonus points on the other court.
