Risborough are three wins away from taking the Berks/Bucks & Oxon Championship title after securing a bonus point 29-12 triumph against Didcot.

A sixth consecutive victory maintains Andy Emmett’s side’s narrow two-point advantage over Crowthorne heading into the final weeks of the season.

Dan Brown got the ball rolling for the hosts after eight minutes when he drove through the Didcot defence, palmed off a last-ditch tackle and dotted the ball down for the opening score.

Nick Grimsdell slotted the conversion, but the fly-half was off-target with his second attempt ten minutes later after man-of-the-match Will Batting drove his way over from five metres out.

The tight head prop scored his second try of the game on the hour mark and this time Grimsdell found his mark to make it 19-0 to the home side.

Didcot hit back scoring two tries, one of which was converted, either side of a Grimsdell conversion before Damien Brown wrapped up the win with Risborough’s fourth try of the match late on.

Emmett’s team have no game this weekend, and will return to action when they take on Harwell on March 21.

With no first team game on Saturday Chesham Stags’ second team took centre stage and fulfilled the pre-match expectations of gaining the win that would take them to the league title. A dominant display against Berkhamsted ensured the Stags would finish top of Merit Table 6 after a comprehensive 61-8 victory.

Their second promotion in as many years was in the bag after nine tries were racked up, although they found themselves trailing 8-3 after the early exchanges.

Nick Jones, Dave Robertson, John Underwood, Dan Brown and Andrew Cady grabbed one try apiece while full-back Steven Morris scored four.

Four tries wasn’t enough for Morris to take the man-of-the-match award, however, as that was given to Toby Deane after he kicked five conversions and two penalties from the tee.

Captain Andy Deane said: “A fantastic result and day for the club, and a very proud day for me to lead this team to its second championship in two years. The squad of players we have had over the season shows the depth of talent we have at Chesham Stags.”
