Having seen his team drop points for the first time since January on Tuesday night, Flackwell Heath manager Graham Malcolm called for a sense of perspective.

The Heathens had won their previous ten Hellenic Premier Division games before they let a two-goal lead slip as the drew 2-2 with Kidlington at Wilks Park.

In avoiding defeat the Reds extended their unbeaten league run to 24 matches and they require only seven points, depending on current leaders Highmoor Ibis’ result on Saturday, from their final six games to clinch the title.

Malcolm said: “I think the general perception is ‘oh, Flackwell have dropped some points’ but six months ago we lost 18 league games.

“It was a game tinged with disappointment as it would be in any game when you’re 2-0 up with 20 minutes to go, but I think they deserved a point. They’re a good side and they took full advantage of the fact that we were a little tired.”

Flackwell have lost just once in 2015, in the last 16 of the FA Vase, and are still fighting on four fronts as they head into the final two months of the season.

Last Thursday Malcolm’s men progressed into the final of the Wycombe Senior Cup on Thursday after goals from Liam Tack and Jamie Handscombe saw off Holmer Green, and on Saturday they reached the last four of the League Cup when they overcame Binfield after extra-time.

Binfield, who are the only team to beat Heath in the league this season, went ahead after nine minutes and led until just after the hour mark when Dan Malloy equalised for the hosts.

Tack struck in the 105th minute before Malloy’s second sealed the victory in the closing stages.

Flackwell play three matches in five days starting with bottom of the league Cheltenham Saracens on Saturday and trips to Holyport and Reading Town on Monday and Wednesday respectively – a sequence of games which would confirm them as champions if they take maximum points.

“There’s still a bit of work to be done. We go to Cheltenham on Saturday and we’re expected to win there. We then go to the derby against Holyport on Monday, which I think will be a good game,” said Malcolm.

“There’s a lot of planning that needs to be done, but we still need to make sure that we get these points. It’s just about getting over the line as quickly as possible so we can sort out how we’re going to finish the season.”

The Heathens will also contest the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup final against Windsor on April 14, and the Reds boss is keen to ensure the trophy cabinet is fully stocked by the end of the season.

He said: “We’ve got to be careful that we make sure we come with everything and not nothing. That’s the plan and three points on Saturday would be a great start.”
