Tyrrell Hatton shot an excellent two-under par round of 70 in the first round of The Open at Andrews.
The 23-year-old has failed to make the cut in the past two years but he’s given himself a good chance of doing so this time round after carding six birdies in the first 18 holes.
Hatton would have been keeping company with the likes of Luke Donald and David Howell at four-under if it wasn’t for a double bogey on the penultimate hole of his round.
The Marlow resident, who is in his second year on the European Tour, carded three birdies on the front nine before replicating that feat on the back nine.
Two bogeys, on nine and 12, held him back before the two dropped shots on 17 left him tied for 30th place at the time of writing.
Hatton is due to tee off at 3:51pm on Friday for his second round alongside amateur Paul Kinnear and Australian Scott Arnold.
American Dustin Johnson led the way at the time of writing, carding a first round 65 to finish on seven-under.
