Wycombe District Swimming Club got off to a fine start in the pool last weekend when the National Arena Swimming League got back under way.

Both Wycombe’s A and B teams competed in the Southern Premier League and the Southern Division two West league respectively.

The A team came in third by just 10 points at their meet in Horsham while the B team won their first round gala in Southampton by a comfortable 40 points.

The competition may only be in its first week of the season but Wycombe’s head coach, Kevin Brooks, is keen to highlight the importance of the event.

He said: “The NASL is a fantastic competitive event where it is all about racing and swimming as a team. It really shows up your strengths and weaknesses as a club and it’s great to go head to head against regional rivals.”

The club hopes that the A team will qualify for the top regional final this season and would like to see the B team win their division and gain promotion to Division One West.

The results at the weekend represented a promising start for both sides as the A team went seventh in their overall standings while the B team are top. They will hope to build on their displays in round two which commences on November 14.

Brooks added: “We’re excited for round two and hope that our swimmers will be able to step up and improve on what were already fantastic swims in round one.”
