Five members of Wycombe District Swimming Club (WDSC) have been awarded grants by Wycombe District Council.

Sarah Collins finished runner-up for the prestigious Sir Steve Redgrave Bursary while Millie Sansome, Timur Gulyiyen, James McFadzen and Sophie Millen were all awarded grants.

Collins competed for Great Britain’s youth internationals, is on the World Class Talent programme and is part of the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme. She is now training with team GB’s modern Pentathlon team.

WDSC Head Coach Kevin Brooks said: “I’m incredibly proud of these swimmers for being recognised for their achievements.

“Ultimately it’s great that they are receiving a contribution towards their swim endeavours from Wycombe District Council.”

As part of the process Collins was interviewed by London 2012 gold medallist Katherine Grainger CBE and three time Olympian Sarah Winkless.

After becoming the UK’s number one ranked backstroke swimmer in her age group, 14-year-old Sansome earned a scholarship and impressed at national events during the summer.

Timur Gulyiyen is a national medallist in breaststroke after winning a bronze and silver at the British Summer Championships.

Quadruple Summer Nationals Gold medallist, Mcfadzen, has been consistently ranking highly in his age group and has earned a place on the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE).

Millen joins McFadzen on the AASE programme for the next two years after excelling in the summer nationals and winning a bronze medal in the open water event.
