Amersham & Chiltern will try to cement top spot in the London One North when they travel to play Letchworth Garden City on Saturday.

They are currently three points ahead of second placed Brentwood after they beat their title rivals 33-13 last time out.

Chiltern coach, Richie Williams, has made it clear he would like to be top of the table at Christmas but expects a thorough examination against the league’s ninth placed club.

He will however be boosted by the possible return of Tom Blackburn who scored a hat-trick for the club’s second team last Saturday after returning from a shoulder injury he suffered in October.

Chiltern will head into the game in confident mood considering their opponents current form. Garden City are without a win in their last three league outings and just one in their last five.

They drew 25-25 against Chelmsford in their last match but have shown that they can cause upsets in the past, in particular with their 8-5 defeat of third placed club CS Rugby 1863 last month.

Elsewhere, Marlow will be eager to arrest a worrying run of form that has seen them lose two games on the bounce against Bletchley.

After being in and around the top four all season Marlow’s slump has seen them fall to seventh in the Southern Counties North table, just a place and three points above Bletchley.

In fairness to Marlow their previous three matches could hardly have been harder with Aylesbury, Bicester and Beaconsfield all being in the top four. A win could see Marlow move as high as fifth in the league, dependent on results in other games, and they will hope to show they have the staying power to challenge near the top of the league.

In the same league Beaconsfield will fancy their chances against second lowest scorers Stow-on-the-Wold who currently occupy ninth position.

Stow have moved themselves out of danger in recent weeks with wins over 11th placed Thatcham and league whipping boys Swindon College Old Boys.

Beaconsfield were building momentum towards a potential title push before last weekend’s defeat at the hands of league leaders Reading Abbey.

They are still just five points of the top of the table but would appear to lack the attacking flair to accompany their defensive solidity to be considered serious contenders.

High Wycombe are basking in the glow of back to back wins for the first time this season and will try to build on that form when they host Oxford Harlequins.

They have opened up a seven point gap between themselves and the relegation zone but will be hard pressed to come away from the match with a win.

Harlequins have the second best recent record in the South West One East Division with four wins and a draw from their last five games and sit seventh.

Wycombe may also find it tough to break down an Oxford team that has conceded just 22 points in their previous four matches in a run that has seen them climb up the table considerably.
