It was business as usual for Amersham & Chiltern as they cruised to a 34-14 win over Thurrock in the London & South East Division – London One North.

Sam Portland, Andy Fluker, Jordan Scott and a George Wood double secured the bonus point win for the home side.

Chiltern are now five points clear at the top of the table and are well on track to achieve their target of promotion after picking up their fifth win on the bounce.

The game was notable for the creative play of Amersham as their smooth passing game proved to be too good for the Thurrock defence.

The Chiltern title chase now moves onto an away match against CS Rugby 1863. Chiltern ran out 24-22 winners the last time the two sides met, and Saturday’s meeting promises to be keenly contested.

In the Southern Counties North Division Marlow suffered a defeat against an ever impressive Reading Abbey side.

Abbey, who are second by points difference alone and have been in fine form, made light work of Marlow as they ran out 30-15 winners.

Marlow have now lost three matches in a row in a run of defeats that has seen them fall to eighth in the table.

Saturday’s match with Stow-on-the-Wold pits Marlow against the side one place and one point below them and they are fast being drawn into the relegation conversation.

Stow head into the match on the back of a resounding 37-7 victory over fellow strugglers Drifters and got the better of Marlow with a 27-24 victory the last time the pair met.

In the same division Beaconsfield could not be separated from Wallingford as the pair played out a 19-19 draw.

The draw represented an opportunity missed as Beaconsfield failed to capitalise on a defeat for fourth placed Bicester for the second week running.

They remain fifth but will look to Saturday’s match against Bicester as the ideal opportunity to drag themselves up the table.

High Wycombe recorded what could prove to be a vital 21-15 win against Trowbridge to move away from the South West One East relegation zone.

The result ended a run of four games without a win for Wycombe, a run which stretched back to 5 December, and leaves them four points ahead of Reading in 12th.

The timing of the win could not have been better, as Reading’s win against Windsor would otherwise have seen them leapfrog Wycombe.

Wycombe are now five points behind 11th place Grove and have another potentially winnable game against Windsor Saturday.

They will need to perform better than they did the last time the two met if they are to avoid a repeat of 31-17 defeat they suffered in October.
