Wycombe Phoenix Harriers enjoyed a strong showing at the cross country County Championships as they picked up three golds and five bronze medals.

The performance of the day arguably came from Bradley Lawrence as he recorded a sixth place finish in the senior men’s race despite being only 19.

The 12km run was four more than he usually takes on and he produced a gutsy display to earn a qualification place for the county team.

In the under-13 girl’s race Kirsten Stilwell led from gun to tape to successfully defend her county title. A strong group effort also saw the club pick up the girl’s team gold.

James Kingston showed great leadership qualities as he helped the men’s under-20 team to a fourth place finish.

He was ably supported by David Clarke, Peter Finn and Nick Colledge who finished 5th, 6th and 7th respectively.

Harvey Bell produced a strong second half in his race to win bronze. His run helped lead the under-13 boys’ team of Jacob Sanderson (11th), Alex Mitchell (23rd) and Jordyn Rose (24th) to a team bronze.

The under-15 girls’ team were stricken by illness but Ana Montgomery (11th), Mia Waterhouse (12th), Maisie Pennant (13th), Olivia Lowrie (16th) and Emma Styles (17th) all performed well.

Fin Bell was extremely unfortunate to miss out on a third place finish in the under-15 boy’s race as he came in just one second behind the front three.

Emma Delgado’s third place finish in the under-20 race helped the women’s team to a combined bronze medal in the under-17 to under-20 event.

The team’s success owed much to the efforts of Tash Taylor and Megan Styles who came in fourth and 11th in the race.

The club transferred their form the County Championships to their Chiltern League match as they picked up four individual wins.

The results leave Phoenix second in the league, and still well and truly in the hunt for promotion heading into he final meet of the season in February.
