High Wycombe snooker player Matt Wilson produced four century breaks to lead Wycombe Liberal A to the Thames Valley Snooker League title last week.

The 32-year-old’s superb run of form began against Wycombe Liberal B as he put together clearances of 101 and 105 against Dennis Simpson to help his side to a 7-1 win.

A home tie against Maidenhead’s Ivy Leaf Falcons presented Wycombe with a chance to seal the title with one week of the campaign to spare on Thursday.

Again Wilson was on top form as he took on Isaac Gumbs and made it four century breaks in a row.

Firstly, he made a classy 108 break to take the opening frames and, after Gumbs left him a chance in the second, he made 106 to complete his haul of 100s.

The second of his tons against Gumbs was by no means easy, as he left himself facing a difficult black while on 99 after clearing ten reds and potting all the colours.

Wilson found the middle pocket with a deft touch though and claimed a fine personal accolade which set Wycombe on their way to sealing the title with another 7-1 victory.

The club’s triumph made it six years in a row in which they have been crowned Champions and it was the ninth time in 10 years that they have finished top of the pile.

Wilson’s own career saw him start playing competitively at the age of 14 and he has made over 400 century breaks to date including a number of maximum scores of 147.

The former semi-professional player represented the England Amateur Men’s team in 2008 and was part of the side which won the Home Internationals tournament, an achievement Wilson rates as the pinnacle of his snooker career.
