With injury wreaking havoc to Marlow’s squad, it was little surprise to see the Thames Valley League Division One side endure a seven-wicket loss to Wokingham.

Marlow elected to bat on what looked like a decent surface and made an inauspicious start as openers Barney Hogg and Graeme Paskins both departed cheaply.

From that point onwards wickets fell on a regular basis as the entire top order failed to make a serious impact on the scoring.

The scarcity of runs left Marlow floundering on 94-8 and they looked unlikely to post anything approaching a defendable score.

Mark Dozell (31) and Jeremy Batty (38) had other ideas though and put on 41 for the ninth wicket to drag their side to 135 all out.

Jack Wood caused the majority of the problems for Marlow as he claimed 6-45, while Simon Myles was also productive with 2-17 from his six overs.

Marlow’s below bar score on such an inviting track left them starring defeat in the face and Wokingham made no mistake with their chase.

Despite Stuart Parsons being caught off the bowling of Paul Brzezicki with the score on 29, the remainder of the Wokingham order barely broke a sweat on their way to an easy win.

Ultimately, they romped to the total with consummate ease with 31 overs to spare.

Marlow took a further blow as seamer Harry Spear injured his hand in the pre-match warm up to add to the club’s injury concerns.

The result sees Marlow fall to fifth in the table ahead of a match against local rivals Chesham, who currently occupy second spot.
