Eight of Buckinghamshire’s sporting stars of the future have been called up to compete at the 2016 School Games.

Bucks representatives range from 13 to 17-years-old and will compete in six different sports at the Games which run from Thursday, September 1 to Sunday, September 4.

The youngest of their number is Beaconsfield High School student Amelie Morgan who will represent England in Gymnastics.

She said: “I’m really excited to have been chosen to represent England, it’s a real honour – it’s also quite daunting but hopefully I’ll rise to it and perform well on the day.”

Fellow Beaconsfield High School student Anna Croft, 16, has been selected for England South West’s Athletics team.

She will be joined in the team by 15-year-old Aylesbury Grammar School student Alfred Mawdsley.

The region has two representatives in the swimming in the form of Wycombe District Swimming Club members Millie Sansome, 15, and James Eddy, 16.

Sansome is delighted with the call up and says she is looking forward to experiencing a tournament she has heard positive things about.

She said: “I am absolutely thrilled as I know how difficult it is to be selected - some of my friends have been before and told me what a great time they had at the games.”

Charlie Bennett, 14, will represent England in the Judo, while Lorna Bowler has been picked in the England Central Cycling squad.

Finally, 17-year-old Charlotte Oswald will hope to impress for England Girls Blue in the hockey.

Oswald said: “I feel honoured to be selected and excited about competing against some of the top girls in the country.

“It is a great experience to meet so many great athletes from so many different sports.”

The event will see 1,600 athletes compete across 12 different sports including seven which feature disability disciplines.

Loughborough University plays host to 11 of the sports while the swimming will take place at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield.

Bucks’ youngsters will be in good company, with the likes of world record breaking swimmer Adam Peaty and Paralympic gold medallist Jonnie peacock having competed at the championship in the past.
