HIGH Wycombe hockey players Charlie Olley and Liam Ansell have been selected for the England U16 training squad.

They are the first players from the club to receive such recognition since player coach Duncan Parnis was selected six years ago.

The duo will now head off to Bisham Abbey on November 21 when the squad will be whittled down from 34 to 22.

And Olley celebrated his call-up by helping their club stun league leaders Gore Court by snatching a 5-5 draw to end their own wretched league run.

It looked as though Wycombe were heading for another defeat when they trailed 2-0 after just five minutes and then 5-3 with just ten minutes left.

But Wycombe fought back to force a draw with a hat-trick from player coach Duncan Parnis the highlight on an afternoon when Johnny Mills and Matt Williams also scored.

Jane Clarke also hit a hat-trick to keep Wycombe Ladies on top of their league. She was joined on the scoresheet by Charly Brydon, Alice Freeman and Claire Edgerley in a 6-3 win over Southgate.

Freeman, with two, and Edgerley were on target again on Sunday as the Ladies hit six again to advance to the next round of the EH Cup. Shona Black, Krystyna Hohenauer and Pip Woolven were also on target in the 6-1 rout of Sunbury.

The 2nd XI also hit six as they advanced with a 6-2 success at Sudbury. Jane Clarke led the way with her second hat-trick of the weekend, going one better this time with four goals, while Lizzie Greenwood-Hughes and Heidi Rutherford also netted.

Those goal sprees were nothing though in comparison to the U18 who racked up a 21-0 win over Henley.

The mens’ second team were also on song. They maintained their 100 per cent start with a 9-2 thumping of South Bucks. Chris Goodchild hit five, James Cousins netted twice and Ian Harman and Andy Blood also netted.
