WASPS might have lost last Friday but Christian Wade still emerged as one of the winners on the night with two tries in front of the England and Lions selectors.
If he wasn’t a cast iron certainty to go to Argentina with England this summer, he is now.
That’s unless Lions boss Warren Gatland decides to take a punt on the 21-year-old, who has been named by Sky Sports on their list of wildcards.
Wade said: “I’m asked about England, about the Lions. If I get invited to tour I’ll be thrilled but that’s out of my hands. I just want to help Wasps earn a Heineken Cup place for next season.”
Wasps director of rugby Dai Young said: “With regards attacking ability and finishing ability, he’s got to be up there with the best of them.
“He showed that again [against Leinster]. He was outstanding. But it’s not a one-off. People who watch us regularly know what a threat he is and what a good player he is.
“He has got electric feet and can make space when it’s not even there. He’s got top end gas [to match] anybody I’ve ever coached and played with and that ability to beat people when that space isn’t there.
“He’s not afraid to play against players with reputations. He rises to the occasion and whether he’s in the white shirt or the red shirt, I’m sure he won’t let anyone down.
“I don’t want to select squads for Stuart [Lancaster] or Warren but I’d be amazed if he was sitting at home this summer. He’s got a massive future and will play at the top end of the game for a long time.”
