Rain just held off for the first car boot sale of the year on May bank holiday and we hope for a lovely day for the next sale on Monday. After two very disappointing years when car boot sales on the Common were either rained off or prevented from happening by the anti-terrorist police activity in the area we hope that the sun will shine on us this year so that support for these popular sales will quickly climb back to its previous levels.

Once again the Memorial Hall was filled with colour at Booker & District Horticultural Society's Spring Show last Saturday. The weather may seem to us to have been a bit mixed but it certainly suited all the spring flowers and shrubs. The flower arrangers excelled themselves too. In this, the Society's 60th anniversary year, the floral art classes reflected anniversaries ranging from wood (5 years) up to sparkling diamond displays. In addition, there were craft items, photographs and delicious baked cakes, biscuits and pies on display.

People in this area are among those who have recently been the victims of burglaries in which the break-in was effected using garden tools. Do remember that thieves can take advantage of unlocked sheds for this purpose as well as for stealing valuable tools. You may also be interested to know that battery powered shed alarms are available from Neighbourhood Watch.

You are probably aware that the development taking place behind the fencing around what was the Turnpike pub is to be a Tesco Express store. What you may not have realised, however, is that the opening of the Tesco Express will mean the closure of the existing One Stop store and with it the closure of our local post office. This will mean that our nearest post office will be at Castlefield, which is not convenient for anyone who relies on walking or using the bus to get to the post office. The alternatives will be the main High Wycombe PO, with its attendant queues, or a bus ride to Lane End.
