Bucks New University have won a Student Choice Award for their courses and lecturers.

The High Wycombe based university were voted one of the best universities in the ‘Course and Lecturers’ category alongside universities such as St Andrew’s, Durham and Oxford.

Votes were cast by students using the Hotcourses website, Whatuni.com. The websites award to the university is basted entirely on students and graduates comments and reviews that have been posted on the site.

The purpose of Whatuni.com and the comments and reviews posted on it has been to help future students make informed decisions about the university they choose to attend.

A recent survey conducted by Hotcourses found that the majority of sixth form students looking at universities would talk advice about which university to attend from existing students and graduates rather than their parents and teachers.

Prof Ruth Farwell, Vice Chancellor of the university said: "Our primary aim is to put students first, and so it is fantastic for us to be recognised by our students for the quality of our courses and lecturers.

“This year we have seen the highest percentage increase in applications to our full-time undergraduate honours degree courses of any UK university, and the fact that we are ranked alongside some of the older universities in the whatuni.com awards, indicates that 'new generation' universities are able to compete effectively in the areas that really matter to students."

Mike Elms, founder of Hotcourses (Whatuni.com publisher) added: "After the introduction of fees we have seen a shift towards the importance of students and their views.

“They are rightly becoming much more demanding of their universities. In the end the opinions expressed in these reviews are what matter most, is they are the views of the students and so, many congratulations to all the universities that have done well."
