Good gosh did I have the most peculiar Saturday.
My regular weekend alarm call, namely a visit from the local ice cream van, never happened and my good self did not wake up until 3pm in the afternoon.
After a quick breakfast it seemed like a good idea to go out doors and do a spot of green keeping.
What is more English than a formal lawn with some magnificent grenadier stripes on it?
It took all my effort to manicure the lawn indeed undertaking such a strenuous task brought home to me the fact that one is not getting any younger.
Afterwards I walked to my front gate and standing on the pavement turned to look back at my home to admire the fine lawn.
I took a few steps backwards to get a better view perhaps stepping back a bit too far into the road.
Suddenly there was the sound of a car horn being blown.
Naturally yours truly sprang forwards in case the horn was being sounded at me and upon turning around to my horror a car was approaching and your humble servant had nearly been run over.
Heavens above that was a close one. Just think how many disappointed readers there would have been if my good self had been run over and my blog had come to an end.
The car involved happened to be one of those newfangled contraptions powered by both a petrol and electric engine. At the time it passed me it was running on the electric motor which explains why I never heard it approaching.
After this afternoons near miss I am now wondering how safe these silent electric cars really are.
They may be the answer to the environmentalists prayers but I fear they may actually be a silent killer running around the streets of our town.
It's amazing how many of these electric cars there are now in Wycombe and they seem very poplar with taxi companies.
Maybe they need to be fitted with a loud speaker which makes the nose of a proper car engine to alert people of their approach?
After my shocking experience I had to go in for a sit down. All evening I have been thinking what a luck escape yours truly had.
Of course I am now all behind indeed after having breakfast so late in the afternoon I decided to have lunch and dinner together, of course I had the same amount of food but just ate it at one sitting.
\Have you have had a near miss with an electric car which crept up on you silently? Perhaps you would like to tell us about your experience?
What do you think?
