Well, Christmas is finally here.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and the very best wishes for the New Year.
As with other years my neighbour has invited me to spend Christmas Day and Boxing Day with them.
Naturally I dressed in my finest trousers and dinner jacket with a lovely crisp white shirt and bow tie. It's so nice to dress up for a meal don't you think?
This year I went round to my neighbours earlier than usual and helped with the preparations.
After peeling what seemed like a hundred potatoes and pouring peas in to saucepans I was thoroughly tired out. Thankfully I was spared the difficult tasks like making the bread sauce or mixing the stuffing.
Now I realise just how much work it takes to prepare a Christmas meal however the end results are most definitely worth it.
We sat down to lunch around 12.30pm.
With the best of intentions my neighbour put some of their homegrown brussel sprouts on my plate.
Being honest I just can't stand sprouts with turkey so, with slight of hand while my neighbour was distracted, I managed to take them off the plate and put them in a napkin concealed in my trouser pocket. Thankfully there wasn't any gravy on them.
Reflecting back on the events so far it makes me realise how lucky we are to be able to have such a feast. With decorations hanging on the wall, a lovely Christmas tree and presents to go with it we are indeed blessed.
I have been looking out of the window and all is quiet in the street. There isn't any movement at all indeed I haven't even seen any young children out on their new bicycles.
I suppose the newfangled computer games and other electronic toys are more popular than bicycles these days.
Anyway I have to get back to the party as they think yours truly has nipped home for a few moments to get the presents. In actual fact I am writing my blog and disposing of the unwanted brussels!
My carefully timed absence will also mean that hopefully yours truly avoids having to help with the washing up.
I may well take my laptop back with me to show my neighbour some pictures of old Wycombe that I have downloaded so please feel free to leave a comment and I will reply as soon as possible.
Are you having a nice Christmas too? Perhaps you would like to share your own experiences of Christmas 2012 with us by leaving a comment?
