What can you do on a cold day in Wycombe?

By ivor »

Despite the winter sun it was still extremely cold outdoors at lunchtime today.

With patches of ice and melting snow on the sides of some pavements it was also quite treacherous under foot.

Being of larger build if yours truly was to slip over it would be extremely difficult for me to get up again under my own steam and I'm sure the last thing you would want is for your humble blogger to be injured or catch a cold.

This lunchtime I decided to play it safe and took sanctuary in warmth of the shopping centre.

However after arriving back at work a colleague told me about a lunchtime music concert they had been to.

I have heard before about the free concerts that take place at the Parish Church every Tuesday. If only yours truly had known about today’s event I would have attended myself.

I am reliably informed it was a really excellent and most enjoyable hour of musical entertainment given by some youngsters from the Wycombe Abbey School.

It events like this that we need in our town centre at lunchtime.

It may be cold outdoors at this time of year but just think how nice it would be to have a band playing in the open air in the summer time.

Perhaps the powers that be could even put up a band stand on Frogmoor and invite some of the famous military bands to come to play in our town?

All we seem to get in Wycombe these days are those dreadful charity volunteers stopping people with the aim of getting them to donate to the cause of the day indeed I featured this problem last Friday in my regular column in the printed version of the Bucks Free Press.

Our pedestrianised High Street would also be an ideal place for jugglers and other street entertainers to show off their skills to the masses.

How about open air puppet shows for the youngsters in the school holidays or outdoor theatre or comedy for the adults?

I still think it would be a good idea to convert one of the empty shops into an art gallery where the local artists could showcase their work. I would even put one of my own paintings on display for everyone to see and possibly buy.

Sadly the powers that be seem incapable of organising anything that would pep up peoples level of interest and the stagnation has well and truly set in.

A little music or entertainment at luchtime is an ideal way to set one up for an afternoon of hard work.

Seeing as you're such a well-read chap, have you considered giving the public a selection of presentations of your wisdom?
You are clearly a natural orator.

Public lectures are something else that could be done at lunchtime indeed I for one would be prepared to attend to hear what the speaker has to say. I think there is some good mileage in a series of “lunchtime lectures”.
~
As for me doing a lecture myself, well, I fear my grotesque appearance would deter people from attending besides I fear my trademark lecture on nuclear physics may be a little too technical for the audience to understand and its been quite a few years since I stood up in public and lectured....

You still haven't answered my comment of some weeks ago;

Evil igor:
1
The Bucks Record Society has published the 1798 Muster Roll for the County of Bucks – this is a list of able bodied males in the county between the ages of 15 and 60 capable of acting in a military capacity. The names are listed by parish and occupation within it. Which page and which parish shows the existence of Biguns?

2
Tell us about your 'purity' - not just more vague adjectives like 'decency'. Do other men possess this 'purity' and 'decency', or is it a uniquely igorian quality, with other veterans of the 1970's being impure and indecent in comparison?

Also what is happening to the crusade to save the Library Gardens?

And it's fictitious - am I the only person to notice the reference to warmth in the shopping centre? 'This lunchtime I decided to play it safe and took sanctuary in warmth of the shopping centre. '

My crusade to save the Library Gardens is still on the boil, maybe I should write a blog about it soon?

It doesn't correspond to the facts if you are talking about the Eden Centre.

But there is more than one shopping centre in Wycombe, indeed I am thinking of a proper shopping centre with doors and a full roof somewhere near Frogmoor....

Au contraire, A lot of people hate awful you.

You tell lies.
You fabricate events.
You make lewd comments about 10 year old girls.
You litter your blogs with sexual innuendo.
Your chosen name in itself is innuendo, despite your claims to the contrary.
You make outrageous claims about your historical family - despite a total lack of any evidence.
And you refuse to answer the questions that are repeatedly put before you - including those above, which still remain unanswered, months after they were first posed.

Yes, everybody HATES you.
